The Desperate Need for God

As a college freshman, I encountered someone who uttered words that shook me to my core. She expressed a desperate longing to be alone with God and His Word. This was foreign to me, as I had always been in the presence of God and His teachings. But her urgency tugged at my soul, compelling me to seek what she had found.

Grasping the Meaning of Grace

The psalms beautifully proclaim the glory of God’s grace, describing Him as merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. Because God is gracious, He extends compassion and steadfast love to us. He accepts us despite our sins and continually redeems us through His forgiveness. His grace is a gift that keeps on giving.

In James 4:6, we read the powerful phrase, “But He gives more grace.” This verse reminds us that God’s grace is abundant and readily available to those who humbly seek it. Drawing near to Him and resisting the devil opens the door to His wisdom and grace.

Embracing Desperation for God

Over the years, I have come to understand the significance of longing for God’s grace. In times of desperation and confusion, I have learned to yearn for His presence and to immerse myself in His Word. His grace is not limited to salvation; it encompasses every aspect of our lives.

Whether we find ourselves in a group of bickering individuals or facing personal struggles, God’s grace provides a path forward. By humbling ourselves, resisting temptation, and drawing near to Him, we invite His gracious presence into our lives.

His graciousness can transform our lives, offering solace for our daily challenges, forgiveness for our mistakes, and guidance for our decisions.
