Should You Buy a Carpet Remnant?

In these times, many of us are seeking ways to save money.
We find ourselves in unique circumstances where labor and supply chain costs have increased, leading manufacturers to raise their prices.
Expert Tip: The most efficient method of saving both time and money when purchasing a small wall-to-wall carpet, custom runner, or area rug is by opting for a remnant.
The Carpet Time basement houses a collection of what we like to call hidden treasures – a variety of remnants awaiting your discovery.

What exactly is a carpet remnant?
A carpet remnant typically refers to a piece of carpet that is smaller than 12’x20′. It is often referred to as the “end roll” and is suitable for small rooms, runners, or area rugs.
For us, the term “carpet remnant” encompasses any discounted piece of carpet. Our inventory consists of remnants from top manufacturers such as Prestige Mills, Stanton Carpet, Milliken, Mohawk, and more!
How are carpet remnants sold?
At Carpet Time, our carpet remnants are sold as entire pieces. We offer a range of sizes, from small runner sizes to larger pieces.
If you’re on a budget, it’s not cost-effective to purchase a 12’x22′ remnant when you only require a 12’x10′ size. Unless you can utilize the excess carpet elsewhere in your home, you’ll end up with surplus material.
Expert Tip: Before visiting our store, make sure to come prepared with accurate measurements. We strongly advise against shopping for remnants if you’re unsure about the exact size you need.
Our clients have successfully acquired geometric Prestige Mills wool carpet remnants from our basement for their custom rugs and runners. This choice allowed them to achieve their desired style within budget, as the cost was significantly lower than ordering a cut from the mill.
What are the ideal uses for carpet remnants?
Carpet remnants are not limited to wall-to-wall installations. They make excellent area rugs and hallway runners.
Compared to standard ready-made rugs, remnants offer a more affordable alternative. They also provide greater customization options, especially when a standard size doesn’t fit your space.
We love recommending remnants to our clients because they allow you to achieve a high-quality look at a fraction of the price. For more information on creating a custom rug, check out our “How to Make A Custom Rug” blog post.

When should customers avoid purchasing a carpet remnant?
While purchasing a remnant offers many advantages, it may not be suitable for everyone. Flexibility in terms of inventory and size selection is essential.
You may find the perfect size remnant, but the color may not align with your preferences. Alternatively, you may come across a piece you adore, but it’s too small for your intended space.
Remnants are not suitable if you require the same style and color for multiple rooms. One major drawback of shopping for a remnant is the potential unavailability of another piece in the same style and color.
Discounted remnants also do not come with a manufacturer’s warranty.
If flexibility is not an option for you, don’t worry! We have a range of roll and special order options available to cater to your needs.
